After being almost 4 years on the net, we have come to the conclusion, that from all presented topics within our homepage, the topic "Wristwatches" with near 800 visits weekly has shown the most interest. It was also noticed that after inquiries, the early electric watches, the mechanical chronographs as well as early plastic and designer watches has also shown a wide interest within the topic of wristwatches. Therefore, we have decided to subdivide the wristwatches into the four sections "Standard", "Chronographs", "Electric" and "Special".
Under "Standard", the following can be understood: mechanical watches with analogue display (with hands), watches with complications like calendars, moon phases, alarms, power reserve indication and so forth.

The "Chronographs" group shows stop watches.

The "Electric" group will contain the whole spectrum from the first electromechanical to the modern quartz wristwatches. This group is divided in "early electric wristwatches" with electric balance wheel, tuning fork calibre and the first quartz watches with pawl wheel (vibrator) and "electronic wrist watches" containing quartz watches with stepper motor, fully electronic watches with LED or LCD displays and other electronic elements.

The fourth group "Special" will contain essentially watches in unusual cases, designer watches from the 60s and 70s as well as all kinds of crazy wrist timekeepers.

There is a large amount of literature on the subject of wristwatches. From this abundance we would like to mention, mostly for the group "Standard", the book "Armbanduhren" (wristwatches) by Gisbert L. Brunner, published by Heyne-Verlag, Munich (in German). This invaluable book shows in a lively, expert and concise form practically all aspects from the first wrist chronometer to the sought-after collector’s piece. For the modern wrist watch, the book "Watch - History of the modern wristwatch" by Pieter Doensen can be recommended. You are also referred to specialist auction houses, such as Antiquorum or Ineichen.
